Bringing Our Communities Together

Focus: Music-led celebration of culture.

A showcase for local bands, singers, songwriters and musicians across genres and cultures
A platform for emerging young artists to perform professionally.

What Is WakaFest?

WakaFest is the music-driven arm of WAKAA Inc’s festival program — a community stage for bands, singers, musicians, DJs, rappers, dancers, songwriters, soloists and cultural performers.

While PolyFest places culture at the centre and GospelFest brings together faith, culture and music, WakaFest puts the spotlight primarily on music and artistic expression.

It is designed to give both emerging and established performers somewhere to be seen and heard.

For WAKAA Inc, that is particularly important for young artists.

Not every young person discovers confidence in a classroom. Some discover it behind a microphone. Some find it playing drums, guitar or keyboard. Others discover it through hip-hop, songwriting, dance, DJing or performing with a band.

WakaFest creates a platform for those talents.

More Than a Performance

The aim is not simply to put someone on a stage for twenty minutes.

Performance can build confidence, discipline, teamwork and communication. It can introduce young artists to other musicians, expose them to different styles and cultures and help them imagine possibilities they may not previously have considered.

For some performers, a WAKAAFest appearance may simply be an unforgettable community experience.

For another, it may be the first step towards a future in music or the creative industries.

Both outcomes matter.
