Bringing Our Communities Together
Focus: Polynesian and multicultural dance-led celebration.
A celebration of Pacific and multicultural heritage — dance, language, food and community
Designed for families and performers of all ages to showcase culture on a public stage.
What Is PolyFest?
PolyFest is WAKAA Inc’s celebration of Polynesian culture and multicultural Western Australia — bringing communities together through traditional and contemporary dance, music, language, food, clothing, arts, crafts and storytelling.
At its heart, PolyFest is about cultural identity.
Many young people in our communities were born and raised in Australia. Australia is home, but their family story may stretch across generations and oceans — through Aotearoa New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Tokelau and communities throughout the Pacific.
PolyFest creates a place where that heritage can be seen, heard and proudly celebrated.
Traditional dance and language sit alongside contemporary music and performance because culture is not something frozen in the past. It continues to develop through each new generation.
A young person can be proudly Australian while also understanding and celebrating their Māori, Samoan, Tongan, Cook Islands, Fijian, Tokelauan or other cultural heritage.
One identity does not have to replace another.
PolyFest also welcomes the wider multicultural community. It is an opportunity to share culture rather than keep it separate — allowing people to experience one another’s food, music, traditions, stories and performances in a welcoming family environment.
A Look Back at PolyFest 2026
Our Vision for PolyFest
WAKAA Inc’s longer-term vision is to develop PolyFest into one of Western Australia’s recognised Polynesian cultural festivals — a family event that celebrates cultural preservation, youth participation and multicultural inclusion.
Young people are particularly important to that vision.
Every song learned, dance performed, cultural story told and language spoken is another opportunity for knowledge to pass from one generation to the next.
